NEW YORK (Dec. 15, 2021) – BMO Harris Bank Managing Director and Group Head of Community Investments Carl Jenkins recently joined the board of trustees of Enterprise Community Investment, a subsidiary of Enterprise Community Partners, a national nonprofit that exists to make a good home possible for the millions of families without one.
Based in Chicago, Jenkins oversees BMO’s Community Reinvestment Act investments targeting lower middle market companies and community-based real estate development in all BMO Harris markets. He manages a team and alternative investment portfolio with assets under management of about $900 million. Additional responsibilities include chairing the board of BMO Private Equity U.S. Inc. and serving on the investment committee for BMO Capital Market’s Impact Investment Fund. Prior to his current position, he served as a commercial real estate lender for BMO Capital Markets and the BMO Harris Community Development Lending team.
“Carl brings an important combination of investment banking expertise and nonprofit community development experience to help us ensure greater equity in our work in Chicago and across the country,” said Charlie Werhane, president of Enterprise’s Capital division and Enterprise Community Investment. “He is a trusted adviser who has unique insights and understanding when it comes to increasing availability of affordable homes, expanding small businesses and growing community-based commercial real estate.”
Jenkins currently serves on the board of directors for several external organizations: National Association of Affordable Housing Lenders, State Employees’ Retirement System of Illinois, Alden Foundation, The Disability Opportunity Fund and Goodman Theatre of Chicago. He also serves on the advisory committee of multiple private equity funds.
“Enterprise’s mission to provide capital and support to the entire spectrum of developers and community organizations complements both my professional work and personal commitment to building equitable neighborhoods,” Jenkins said. “Additionally, the work that Enterprise is doing aligns perfectly with our purpose at BMO, which is to boldly grow the good in business and life.”
Prior to joining the bank, Jenkins worked for the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, a national community development financial institution. He earned his bachelor's degree in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis and holds an MBA from the Kenan-Flagler School of Business at the University of North Carolina.
