Washington, D.C. (May 2, 2025) – Today the White House released its 2026 budget proposal, including a 44 percent cut to HUD housing programs. Enterprise Community Partners CEO and President Shaun Donovan, former HUD secretary and White House budget director, said the following:
“Slashing essential housing programs like HUD’s rental assistance and block grant programs will only worsen the historic housing crisis and erase hard-fought progress toward building affordable housing. These cuts won’t just affect large cities; their impacts will ripple across small towns, rural areas, and Tribal communities. Without viable alternatives, cutting housing programs will drive up the cost of living and place heavier burdens on seniors, low-income families, veterans, and millions of others who rely on stable, affordable housing to thrive.
“In the first days of his presidency, President Trump delivered an executive order aimed at reducing cost-of-living for Americans that prioritized bringing down the costs of housing. We will continue to work with the new administration and Congress, and leaders at every level of government to advance solutions that provide affordable homes to the millions of Americans without one.
“Enterprise stands ready to partner in those efforts.”
