Undocumented families face additional barriers when accessing housing and other basic supports, and school staff have a uniquely important role to play with families, whose only touchpoint with public services may be their children’s school. Following a review of federal, state, and local housing assistance, this brief explains the concept of public charge, and provides guidance on helping set families up for stability, educational success, and upward mobility. This brief was made possible through the generous support of the Ballmer Group and reflects the work of Enterprise, in partnership with StriveTogether, to support housing and education partners around the country.
