Enterprise has awarded $1.5 million in grants to 32 groups in rural and tribal communities from Dover, Delaware to Anahola, Hawaii.

Look upward in downtown Detroit and you’ll see ornate skyscrapers built even before the city’s automotive-fueled heyday of the 1950s, when it was the richest city in the country. Lower your gaze, and the bevy of cranes offers signs of renewal. At street level, crowded restaurants and busy sidewalks create an urban buzz familiar to any city dweller. For Melinda Clemons, this activity is a positive sign, as her hometown builds back from the national foreclosure crisis in 2008 and municipal bankruptcy five years later.

At a gathering of the Purple Line Corridor Coalition (PLCC) partners last year, David Bowers, Enterprise’s vice president and Mid-Atlantic market leader, gave us all a charge: Lay track. It’s the idea that we need to be as proactive about creating and expanding our tools for equitable outcomes for people near the Purple Line in the same way builders are laying track for the new light rail. The track we lay now will shape people’s lives and communities in our region for decades to come. 

Enterprise has successfully closed on the acquisition and financing of Edgewood 611 Apartments and three adjacent buildings on the Edgewood Commons campus in Northeast Washington, D.C.
