Every neighborhood has assets – the people, places, and experiences that make each community unique. Our Detroit work focuses on leveraging those assets with capital, programs and policy to advance racial equity and preserve affordable homes. We’ve helped create or preserve over 18,000 homes by leveraging $667 million in capital across the region.

Some of our key programs include:

  • Detroit affordable housing preservation: Leads a multi-organizational team to preserve thousands of at-risk affordable homes
  • Community Development Organization Fund: Provides local nonprofits with multi-year operating grants and technical assistance
  • Economic mobility: Supports homeownership for low-moderate income residents through the Northwest Detroit Live-Where-You-Work initiative
  • State and local policy: Collaborates with state and local housing partners to maximize resources for affordable homes, homeownership access and tenant-right protections

Funder Spotlight

Gilbert Family Foundation

The Gilbert Family Foundation has invested $10M in the Detroit Home Repair Fund (DHRF), which is building capacity for non-profit partners to provide low-income Detroit homeowners with critical home repairs. Holistically addressing Detroit housing stability, the program is expected to serve more than 1,000 Detroit homeowners over the next three years.
