Protecting Renters from Income Discrimination

In April, Congress reintroduced the Fair Housing Improvement Act of 2023 to ensure that the variety of income sources people use throughout the country to pay their rent don’t pose an obstacle to signing a lease. For 2.3 million households around the country living with low incomes, rental subsidies in the form of housing vouchers offer the promise of affordable housing. Yet, in many places, legal forms of discrimination create a barrier to realizing that promise.

Rapid Response to Covid-19: What We Learned

The COVID-19 pandemic posed a unique challenge for CBOs. Recognizing the extra effort that would be needed, Enterprise supported them to respond to expanded community needs, creating the national Emergency Action for Resident and Partner Stability program in May 2020. Overall, the 2020 initiative – known as EARPS – proved a successful model for the rapid deployment of emergency assistance to support community stability.
